Welcome to the General Fraternity Resource Page for the office of Lieutenant Commander. As Lieutenant Commander, there are numerous duties and expectations placed upon you. Fortunately, for all of these responsibilities, there have been just as many resources created aimed at assisting you meet them.

This webpage consolidates the many resources pertinent to your specific position in order to provide a 360 degree view of what tools are available. It is recommended you take the time to review the resources on this page shortly after election, as it will help you better prepare as Lieutenant Commander. Throughout your tenure in this position, you will undoubtedly be faced with some difficult challenges. Office of Lieutenant Commander Manual *NEW*

The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc.

The Law is the three part document (Constitution, Statutes, and Trial Code) which governs Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. The Law sets membership requirements, standards of conduct, and the framework for the operation of all entities of the Fraternity, including collegiate chapters.

 Risk Reduction Policy and Guidelines

Along with The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. the Risk Reduction Policy and Guidelines provides our constituents with specific policies on areas such as the education of initiates and candidates, activities of the chapter, premises of the chapter and hazing. The Risk Reduction Policy and Guidelines is updated every 2 years, as needed by the Grand Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Chapter Strategic Plan Template *NEW*

This resource serves as a helpful guide for the development of your chapter's strategic plan. This template serves as a complement to work completed through the PEP Strategy Session, the Strategic Planning LEAD Session, and the chapter's Consultation Action Plan.

Honor and Judicial Board Structure *UPDATED*

As Lt. Commander, one of your primary responsibilities is to establish and chair a Honor/Judicial Board for disciplinary matters that may not warrant Trial Code. This document provides a standard structure to help you operate an efficient Honor/Judicial Board.

Committee Chairman Report Form *UPDATED*

Your committee chairmen should be conducting regularly scheduled meetings with their committees throughout the week before the Executive Board meets. Use this document so your committee chairs can provide you concise updates on their progress toward goals and projects.

Pursuit of Excellence Program

The Pursuit of Excellence Program (PEP) is Sigma Nu’s chapter assessment, standards, and improvement program. As Lt. Commander, you need to master this information and champion your chapter’s participation in the program. This link will provide you with everything you need to know.

We Have A Situation

Many of the most important decisions a chapter must make do not necessarily present themselves in a formal chapter setting, but rather on the weekends or during special campus sporting and alumni events. How to handle situations that could potentially alter the future of a chapter and its members is a pressing issue. This collection of "white papers" addresses common alcohol-related topics and instances that chapter leaders and members face on a potentially regular basis and at most, if not all, colleges and universities.

Teambuilding Guide *NEW*

Sigma Nu's Teambuilding Guide contains nearly 70 activities for chapters to use at retreats, meetings, LEAD sessions, and brotherhood events. The guide includes facilitation tips, suggested audiences and events to use teambuilding with, and discussion questions to translate experiences to improvements in the chapter. The teambuilding activities shared here are only a small sampling of what Sigma Nu chapters, colonies, members, and alumni can use to create experiential learning opportunities. The guide provides tips on facilitating activities; selecting activities for specific audiences and events; addressing key themes like communication, trust, and problem-solving; easy to follow instructions; and discussion guides to process teambuilding experiences.

Mental Health Resource for Officers *NEW*

This resource offers an interactive, online program – Behind Happy Faces Advisor Resource Series – to equip officers and volunteers with an understanding on how to care for the mental health of themselves and their members. The Advisor Resource Series is comprised of five 5-10 minute online modules that can be completed in one setting or spread out over as many sessions as you would like.

Best Practices Library

This library includes activities, programs, processes, and practices that result in or lead to excellent performance. Practices were collected from Sigma Nu chapters across North America of every size, institutional type, and region of the country. The best ideas and practices that could and should be replicated by other chapters are found here.

The library allows users to sort through over 400 ideas, examples, and templates. Best practices are sorted by area of operations (as defined by the Pursuit of Excellence Program) and subcategorized by type (e.g. accountability ideas, events, finances).

Sigma Nu Talks

Sigma Nu Talks are a series of curated TED Talks and YouTube clips paired with discussion guides and application ideas to be shared during chapter or candidate meetings, as part of a retreat, or as their own mini LEAD session. The concept is fairly simple - gather together a group of Sigma Nus, watch one or more of the suggested talks, and create a conversation using the included discussion guides.
